Knowing how to act in a dorm for the first time can be hard. Here is what this year’s cherubs learned after living with 82 people for five weeks.
DO:
- DO plan on doing laundry once a week.
- DO have a shower caddy to carry your stuff to and from your room.
- DO throw away all your trash.
- DO have snacks handy in your room.
- DO bring your laptop and movies.
- DO talk to your roommate.
- DO have candy to share with your floor.
- DO leave your door open during floor hours, since you probably will forget to carry your key with you.
- DO keep small bills and change to use for laundry and vending machines.
- DO clean your room daily, or you probably never will.
DO NOT:
- DO NOT wait until the third week to do laundry.
- DO NOT leave your toiletries in the bathroom.
- DO NOT leave food lying on a common room table. (It will be eaten or it will start to smell.)
- DO NOT leave hair in the sink or shower. You floor mates will not appreciate it.
- DO NOT bring food that will smell within two days.
- DO NOT eat other people’s food without their permission.
- DO NOT assume your roommate left your door unlocked; keep your key with you at all times.
- DO NOT stay up until two in the morning when you have class at 9 a.m.
- DO NOT leave your laundry in the machine overnight, and DO NOT start your laundry just before floor hours.
- DO NOT let your finished laundry prevent other people from washing/drying their own load.
