Welcome to the not-so-hidden page
Major mad props to: Mary Lou Song, Jacqueline Chmielnicki and Sarahmaria "Tiny Terror" Gomez
The web production team thanks you!

The behind-the-scenes Web site workers:

Sleepy dust encrusts my eyes. My teeth and my hair are unbrushed. I think I locked my keys in my room this morning.

I am tired. I am very, very tired.

That's okay, though. From purple-pen-stained assignments to mid-afternoon Joy Yee's runs, I want everyone to see these five weeks. If that costs me a few lost hours of sleep and makes no one want to hug my ungroomed self goodbye on the last day, so be it.

I want prospective cherubs to read this website and get a taste of cherub life... of all the people I've met, the work I've done, the lifelong friends I've made. I glance at our Web site and realize the fatigue and sanity has been well worth it.

Thanks to everyone who has made these five weeks (and this Web site) so unbelievable.

It's been real.

You won't find this anywhere else. The people on this page were the ones who stayed up long past check-in to get this website up and running. Larry and I, on the second day, were the only ones trusted with uploading files, since cherubs were doing strange things when left on their own.

Wow. It's another actual block of text. You also won't find this anywhere else on this page. Things got pretty crazy since all 88 cherubs were involved with the website creation. A handful of stressed editors bugging you (I don't hold any grudges though). Anyway, it's 8:32 a.m., and the program ends tomorrow. I feel kind of sad and flabbergasted.

Another one! I just used the only exclamation point I'm allowed in my entire life (you'll get it once you come here).

Tiredly,

P.S. If you want to kill time the way I did play World Cup Soccer Slime. Go Seth Efrica!

I think we editors broke more rules in the past four days than during the entire 5-week program. We jay-walked, we stayed past check-in, and we showed up late to class, but it was all worth it.

In four days, 88 cherubs came together to create this Web site and I must say, it looks pretty damn good. To the members of my content team, thanks for putting up with me and working your little fingers off. To the instructors, thank you for editing our haphazard papers, feeding us editors, and improving our skills 10-fold. And finally, to my fellow cherubs, thanks for making this summer unforgettable. Keep in touch - facebook style.

George Patton once said something along the lines of " the greater the risk, the more rewarding the success." The instructors decided to involve all 88 cherubs in this year's website production--there's your risk right there. But the reward was undeniable. We've produced a webpage that both commemorates the incredible summer we had at Medill and also entice prospective cherubs to apply. My team was wonderful; they did all the heavy lifting. All I did was read the map.

Listen to the Rolling Stones.

After 35 days, I’m pretty sure that the two days it took making this website were the longest, most tiring of my days at cherubs. So use it, memorize it and build off of it when you future cherubs are given the opportunity to make one. Now since I’ve survived five weeks of journalism boot camp, I think it is my journalistic duty to provide you with some words of advice that you probably won’t find anywhere here.

No matter what you do, do it with a smile – no matter how crappy, how demanding or how tedious. Be a fly on the wall and absorb stories from all around you. Understand personalities and human nature. Don’t judge. Learn to get along with the people around you, even if you don’t like them. Be sure to laugh. Make sure you listen.

And most of all, enjoy your time at cherubs; it’s bound to be the best time of your life – it was for me.

I have no idea how this Web site was put together in just 4 days, and to that I owe all the other editors, my reporters, and a special thanks to Asia Mayfield, Justin Schecker, Lindsay Abrams, and Laurel Stankus--you guys did a great job with the videos, photos, and podcasts, respectively. Thanks also to Mary Lou, Jacqueline, and Sarahmaria--this website would be nowhere without you guys.

To all prospective cherubs: This really has been the best summer of my life. Take advantage of every opportunity--even if you are dying to read the newest Harry Potter book ( like I was), force yourself to hang out with your friends--it will never be the same. Live in the moment, don't have any regrets, and most important of all, go to cherubs...it will change your life.

Cherubs. Definition: chubby little angel babies, or journalism students at the NHSI summer program. I consider myself the latter. After completing this program I know that I and all of my classmates, will always be cherubs. We have invested ourselves in five weeks of intense, yet unbelievably fun, journalism and we will never forget the people we have met here (we may even be working with or for some of them at major publications, Web sites or television stations some day).

Frankly, this Web site rocks. Producing it was a great bonding experience and brought us closer together in the last week of the program. I hope it encourages more eager journalism students like us to apply and come to this program. I think that by reading this Web site you can tell we had a blast.

I love you all.

I hope each visitor to the Web site can appreciate the effort and the massive amounts of times put into creating this magnificent Web site. Special thanks to Katie Sanders and Fahim Hashmi for helping out so much. Special thanks to the instructors who helped out so much as well.

I am the lone San Franciscan this year. It has been a blast working with the other 87 cherubs. Though the workload was taxing at times, I had more fun than anyone can imagine or put into words. I advise any prospective cherubs to go ahead and apply. You will never regret the choice you make. It is 110 percent worth it. The connections you make will be long-lasting.

I will miss all of the people here. I'm going to miss the nasty Joy Yee's on the fourth floor (which still in my opinion is not good Chinese food), the blasting of "We Takin' Over" at 2 a.m., the tense poker games, the crazy Jews vs. Gentiles Courtside Crusade and most of all, all the chill times I had on the first floor with my friends. I love you all! Go Giants!

P.S. If any '07 cherubs are coming to the bay area, give me a call!

I had a great time. I hope that people read this site and realize that this is a great program. It is important to know the basics of how the five weeks will go, and I think that this website will allow prospective cherubs to know these basics.. If you come to the program next year, you will learn so much about journalism and make friendships that you will never forget. I think that this site has met all of our expectations. I am truly proud of the entire staff. I would like to especially thank the nine writing members of the "learn" section of the content team. Also, the photo editor for the learn section, Sydney Schuit, did a great job and made a really nice Fourth of July slide show. Our podcast staff member for the "learn" section, Elisabeth Dion, spent a lot of time on her two podcasts and really did them in a creative way. Finally, I'd like to thank the three people who made videos for the "learn" section. They were Asia Mayfield, Megan McGee and Justin Schecker. I really had a great time helping to put together the "learn" section. I had a great time, and I really appreciate the work of the entire staff.
